Job Title Senior Chemical/Process Engineer

Senior Chemical/Process Engineer – Contract Position, location CorkESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Senior Process Engineer is expected to be capable of functioning as a process engineer without direction on process projects in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Petrochemical, and Fine Chemical, industries.

This role will be responsible for the process design and occasionally project engineering co-ordination across multiple projects for all phases from concept through to commissioning while ensuring that the design meets applicable codes and standards and customer specifications and while achieving project deadlines. Adherence to the Rockwell Automation (RA) quality system and review of same.

This role is expected to be the process lead for projects.



  • Perform all process design calculations (e.g., sizing of equipment, lines, safety relief devices, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain all design documents (e.g., basis of design, process controls user requirement specification, pre-CAD P&IDs, process lists, etc.) required to complete projects to the client’s satisfaction from conceptual through to detailed design
  • Ensuring compliance of design to current local, national and international standards
  • Reviewing client specifications and ensuring compliance of design to same
  • Ensuring compliance of project activities to our procedures and processes and client SOP, and standards
  • Preparation, execution and reporting for HAZOPs
  • Execution of vendor Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
  • Ensure speedy resolution of all process Technical Queries (TQs)
  • Assist in the generation of and execute/provide support of protocols for commissioning and start up
  • Coordination with/managing of other design disciplines (EC&I, Mechanical, Automation, Validation, etc.)
  • Participation in and/or leading project meetings
  • Assist in the supervision of graduate engineers assigned to the same projects
  • Act as mentor to other engineers
Planning / Commercial

  • Preparation of the process concepts for project budgets/estimates and sales proposals
  • Generation of Engineering Estimates for Sales Proposals
  • Presentations to Clients in support of Sales function
  • Co-ordination with procurement for all process components
  • Adherence to / tracking / managing budgeted hours for the engineering activities
  • Adherence to / tracking / managing Project Schedules at all times
  • Proactively identify Design Change Requests (DCR’s) and provide inputs as required
  • Ensure current Good Engineering Practices are applied

  • Adhere to the RA Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Update and maintain Process SOP’s
  • Ensure compliance with RA required training
  • Attendance at quality audits by customers and NSAI

  1. Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar 3rdlevel qualification
  2. Experiencein a similar role for 10+ years of process engineering across the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Petrochemical, Fine Chemical, Waste-to-Energy, Oil and Gas industries
  3. Experience in designing and construction of plant and modules / skids to comply with, cGMP and US and EC directives, e.g., ASME, ASTM, CE, PED, Machinery Directive, Seveso
  4. Advantageous: experience project engineering
  5. Advantageous: experience using Aspen suite of simulation software
  6. Self-starter – ability to initiate and drive projects with little supervision
  7. Creative problem solver – ability to find creative solutions with a “can-do” attitude, in a fast paced environment
  8. Strong work ethic – someone who loves to do great work and takes pride in professionalism, and responsibility, and who is proactive
  9. Full, clean driver’s license is required
  10. Ability to travel is required
  11. Strong communications skills, both in writing and speaking
