Employer Ubiqus Ireland Ltd
Job Title Editor - Transcription Department

Editor / Proofreader – Ubiqus Ireland

Ubiqus Ireland is part of a multinational report-writing, transcription and translation company.

We now have a vacancy for an Editor to join our team: Based in-house, at our office in Waterford.

The role will involve proofreading and editing transcripts that have been written up (typed) by our team of transcribers, checking that the transcripts are accurate, remain faithful to the audio recordings of the meetings transcribed, and are written in perfect English, with correct grammar, punctuation, style etc.

After a training period where you get to know our house style, document templates, Transcribers’ guides etc., you will be responsible for editing documents (English language) to ensure that high quality standards are met. The documents will be written by our team of transcriptionists. The content will be varied and will principally consist of transcripts of court proceedings, but also business conferences, conference calls, and other spoken events.

Our editors are responsible for the quality and delivery of our documents to our clients.

A very important aspect of this role is providing feedback and support to our team of transcriptionists, to assist their development and improvement - with the aim of minimising the editing required on transcripts. This includes communicating directly to transcriptionists as well as internally on ability to deliver quality and accurate documents.

You will be a native English speaker, with a very strong command of both written and spoken English. Strong IT skills are essential; in particular an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google / web search. Ideally educated to third level with a qualification in English. Experience of editing / proof-reading will be a distinct advantage, although not essential.

While interesting, this is a demanding role, with high volumes of transcripts to edit, and constant tight deadlines to meet. Experience in a similar environment would be an advantage, and an ability to work well under pressure is essential.

In short: A full-time professional pedant with an encyclopaedic, magpie-like mind full of grammar, current affairs, and trivia - who can nonetheless proofread to seriously demanding deadlines.
